Staffing niche: Houston MBE provides contract personnel to oil, gas, chemicals, plastics and power industries
March 26, 2008
Finding success in the business world is all about having the ability to recognize opportunities and then taking the necessary steps to capitalize on them. It was back in 1981 when Ray Nunez, president and CEO of Houston, Texas-based Taylor & Hill Inc., saw such an opportunity to grow a business and become well known in the industry.
Soon after Nunez joined the then- 7-year-old company in 1981, he became the firm’s sole owner. Nunez attributes his success to God and recognizing the gifts to lead and organize.
In a market where competition is staunch, Nunez has developed a model which allows Taylor & Hill to effectively offer engineering, staffing and laser scanning services for refiners and chemical manufacturers. Essentially, the firm provides comprehensive services tailored toward successfully delivering on high-profile projects.
Down to details
Contracting staffing is undoubtedly a key component to Taylor & Hill’s offering. As part of the firm’s contract personnel offering, Taylor & Hill’s experienced professional recruiters and management team provide quality technical personnel specifically qualified to execute projects on site for refinery and chemical plant customers throughout the Gulf Coast region. Taylor & Hill currently leads the marketplace in staffing professional engineers and designers to refineries and chemical plants.
Taylor & Hill’s full-service engineering provides front-end scope development as well as detailed engineering and design services in all major disciplines. The engineering team effectively executes projects from the home office and organizes teams at the customer’s plant site.
The firm provides state-of-the-art laser scanning and 3D modeling of plant facilities to its customers and the aerospace industry. The scanning team has successfully scanned and modeled entire plant facilities for relocation to other parts of the United States. Known as an innovator, Taylor & Hill introduced laser surveying technology to plant facilities in 1997 at a time when only conventional measuring methods were in use.
“We provide our entire client base with specialized services that they have come to expect from us. Our customers know we are qualified and uniquely equipped to meet their diverse needs. We offer staffing professionals at the plant facilities, while working hand-in-hand with our clients to develop dynamic onsite project teams, our niche,” Nunez said. “Having 34 years of experience in this industry has equipped us with a unique knowledge of our clients’ requirements, therefore enabling us to provide solutions that only come from our indepth understanding of our customers.”
Tools of the trade
Maintaining a competitive advantage has been instrumental for Taylor & Hill throughout the years. Armed with a certification through the Houston Minority Business Council, Nunez has been able to secure a primary roster of blue chip clients who appreciate the value that his team offers. Some of Taylor & Hill’s current clients include BP, Air Products, Chevron/Phillips, Shell and Reliant Energy.
Nunez told Minority Business News that Taylor & Hill clients also have a sincere appreciation for the firm’s unwavering dedication to health and safety initiatives, especially in an environment where mishaps could easily turn deadly. Taylor & Hill’s safety performance has been recognized on several occasions in the business community. For instance, the firm qualified as a category finalist in the Houston Business Roundtable award for “Outstanding Safety Performance” in 2003 and 2004. In addition, BP South Houston recognized and awarded Taylor & Hill for its outstanding safety leadership in 1996, 1997 and 1999.
“The safety and health of our employees is the first consideration in the operations of Taylor & Hill,” Nunez said. “We have consistently persisted upon a safety-first-and-foremost attitude and tightly hold our employees responsible and committed to this effort.” Ray Nunez “We provide our entire client base with specialized services that they have come to expect from us. Our customers know we are qualified and uniquely equipped to meet their diverse needs. We offer staffing professionals at the plant facilities, while working hand-in-hand with our clients to develop dynamic on-site project teams, our niche.” — Ray Nunez
